Educational & Outreach Programs

With support from Encore! Symphony Volunteer Council, the Tracy Family Foundation, the Samantha Otte Youth Opportunity Fund, and the Quincy Society of Fine Arts, the QSOA offers many wonderful educational and musical opportunities for young musicians and young audiences.  Bring your children and/or grandchildren to all QSOA concerts.  Encourage a love of live music!

Since 1955, the Young Artist’s Competition has offered musicians in grades 10 thru 12 the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Quincy Symphony Orchestra.  Many former soloists are now professional musicians and educators.

The High School Musicians Grant, funded by Encore!, allows advanced high school students who rehearse and perform regularly with the Quincy Symphony Orchestra or Chorus to receive a stipend toward their private lesson expenses.

The Quincy Area Youth Orchestra, open to 7th – 12th graders from the region provides enrichment through mentoring, master classes, and trips to see professional performances.  The QAYO performs side-by-side with the Symphony on the Young Artists concert, and presents a Spring concert.

The Quincy Area Youth Chorus for youth ages 8 through high school seeks to supplement school and church choral training through focused preparation and performance of excellent choral literature.  QAYC performs a Fall concert and a Spring concert each year, and sings with the symphony as needed.

The Quincy Symphony Orchestra presents Young People’s Concerts to area 3rd – 6th graders.  Over 3,000 school children attend these concerts each year during the school day.  They are encouraged to join their school music programs.  The concerts are provided at absolutely no charge to the schools.

The QSO performs a Family Concert each year, with repertoire chosen specifically with families in mind.
