Landscapes The 2011-2012 Concert
Season
Welcome to the Quincy Symphony’s 2011-2012 musical season, dedicated to the many natural and creative landscapes that surround us and create our panoramic world. The season’s opening concert is devoted to composers’ vibrant impressions of our natural world ranging from Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring to the regional premier of Carolyn Hopkins’ Life on the Mississippi. We are excited to feature the Chicago Symphony’s multidimensional Beyond the Score® interpretation of Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 entitled “Whose World?” The Beyond the Score® program offers a multimedia examination of the score − its context in history, the details of a composer's life that influenced its creation − sharing the illuminating stories found inside the music. Our February concert showcases English music along with the winners of our Young Artists Competition. The season concludes with a large-scale collaboration involving orchestra, soloists, adult chorus, and childrens chorus for John Rutter’s Mass of the Children. This program also welcomes flute soloist Virginia Broffitt performing the Reinecke Concerto. Whether you’re a returning patron or a new subscriber, be sure to join the Quincy Symphony Orchestra for another remarkable season!
